Alpha Phi Omega Section One

End of Year Reminders

(updated 5.8.09)

Greetings!
The school year is quickly drawing to a close and the National Office would like to take this opportunity to remind you to make sure your chapter has completed all reporting requirements. Every chapter is required to send in applications and fees for pledges and new initiates for each pledge class.
Do you know if your chapter officers have fulfilled these important reporting requirements? Has everyone who was initiated into the chapter received their membership credentials? Do you know if you are listed on the national membership rolls? Did the newly initiated brothers pay their fees to the chapter?
These are very important questions, because non-reporting of pledges and new members for this year means that forms may become misplaced over the summer and when school begins in the fall no one remembers that fees and forms weren’t submitted for this year’s members. Students who have been initiated as members of Alpha Phi Omega deserve to receive their membership credentials and be added to the national rolls.
Has your chapter submitted their 2008-2009 Charter Reaffirmation and paid Annual Active Membership Dues (AAMD) and insurance fees? The National Bylaws states that chapters are required to annually submit their reaffirmation and pay dues and insurance fees. Again, please check with your chapter officers regarding this reporting requirement!
A link has been provided to the “Same Page” booklet which provides an explanation of the appropriate fees and time frames for submission of forms, etc, as well as pictures of each form. Please review the information and
discuss it with your members and chapter officers. Copies of the booklet are sent to chapter presidents and treasurers, as well as chapter advisory chairs each fall and spring semesters, to help ensure that chapters meet reporting requirements to be considered in “good standing” with the fraternity.

Section One Report

Over this year we've had many notable achievements that I would like to highlight. Chi chapter had an exceptional outreach program and was recognized for doubling UCLA's active APO membership. Rho Gamma chapter being featured in the APO Torch and Trefoil for their exceptional Rush Video, and LB had an incredible 100% retention rate from newly crossed brothers. CalState LA set a new standard for their fund raising and fellowship with an innovative Auction and hosted a Section One first; kick ball tournament. "Kicking it with Lambda Mu" was a memorable fellowship event and had attendance from section one and two chapters. Alpha Delta Theta went the extra mile and had individual service and fund raising goals. The active brothers of ADT met their challenges triumphantly. In addition, I thank Riverside for their hard work for putting together the Section One Conference. The cardinal red and gold colors of USC showed that service runs in their blood. Alpha Kappa has, on average, an incredible 48 hours of service per active brother and topped the service hours for Section One. Besides Nationals recognizing CalPoly Slo for their 65th anniversary, Zeta Omicron maintains their long-standing traditions and is now sharing that while extending an active hand in helping the recharter of UCSB IG.
Overall this year, Section One saw the first (in a long time) a section-wide service with over 120 attendees from 7 different chapters, had four Interest Groups start up, achieved an incredible 13,657 hours of service, and fund raised over $10,000 for philanthropic events, charities, and business operations. Over this past year, our section has grown closer to one another, and I look forward to seeing another productive year for Section One.

Sincerely,
Johnny Ku

Boy Scouts Venturing Program

Updated: 3.22.09
VENTURING - Boy Scouts of America
About Venturing
Background

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Venturing is a new "old" program of the Boy Scouts of America. Originally part of the Exploring Division, it finally came into its own in 1998. It has become the fastest growing program of the BSA. Young adults have found through the Venturing program the outlet they have been looking for in their age group.

It has been an exciting time of fast growth and great learning experiences. The Venturing youth cabinet is in a unique position to promote this exciting program through their active involvement in their regions and throughout the United States.

There are continued misconceptions about what Venturing is all about. Venturing is not for young boys and girls but rather for young adults. They are able to do more and go further as a Venturer or Sea Scout in a Venturing crew or Sea Scout ship.

Venturing provides positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing provides the skills needed for young adults to make ethical choices, experience a fun program full of adventure and challenges, acquire leadership skills, and to take advantage of opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge in the areas of high adventure, sports, arts, hobbies, religious life, and Sea Scouting.

As part of the national Venturing youth cabinet, you will be able to help advance Venturing as well as promote the idea that the Venturing program is for YOUNG ADULTS who want a broader experience in leadership, vocations, and hobbies.
